Cholesterol drugs and muscle pain here is how to prevent it

Cholesterol drugs and muscle pain here is how to prevent it - here is how to prevent it

Cholesterol-lowering statins are very effective medical drugs that may cause muscle pain in some cases. This problem can be helped with supplements of something called coenzyme Q10.

Have you wondered why your muscles started hurting after your physician prescribed cholesterol-lowering statins? Loads of people have this problem but what many are unaware of is that they can prevent the pain by taking supplements of something called coenzyme Q10.
This was clearly seen in an American study from 2007 where statin-induced muscle pain was reduced by 40% among those patients who took the supplement. Luckily, more and more doctors are familiar with this important information.

Statins block Q10

Cholesterol-lowering statins are highly effective when it comes to reducing the body's cholesterol levels. They work by blocking the production of cholesterol that takes place inside the liver. The liver, however, also produces coenzyme Q10, a natural compound that we humans need to make energy in our cells.

Cholesterol is related to Q10

The irony is that both cholesterol and coenzyme Q10 are derived from the same ground substance - an enzyme called HMG-CoA - so by blocking this enzyme, statins throw a wrench in the wheels of the cholesterol production as well as the production of Q10. Cholesterol and Q10 are biochemically related, so to speak.

Interferes with cellular energy

With reduced levels of coenzyme Q10, the body is bound to be affected in different ways, as all cells need energy to function normally. This includes:

  • brain cells
  • nerve cells
  • muscle cells
  • sperm cells
  • egg cells
  • skin cells
  • etc.

Not surprisingly, when statins lower Q10 levels, it affects our tissues. Pain in muscle tissue is one side effect. There is also fatigue, lack of energy, confusion, impotence and other signs of reduced energy turnover in various tissues.

An easy way to compensate

What is simpler than to compensate for the loss of Q10 by taking supplements of the very same substance? It is a safe, convenient, and effective way of making sure the body can produce the energy it needs to function normally.
